ChatGPT Now Builds Mini-Apps Inside the Chat. Does Your Business Still Need an App?
GPT-6's Intelligent UI builds working tools inside the chat. What it does well, where it stops, and why your own platform still matters.

Short answer: OpenAI's GPT-6, rolling out to everyone this week, answers questions with live, interactive interfaces instead of plain text - charts, forms, calculators and small tools built on the spot. It is impressive, and it changes what users expect from software. It does not replace a real product your customers log into. Here is how to use it, and where the line sits.
What OpenAI launched this week
On October 7, 2026, OpenAI brought GPT-6 to ChatGPT's full user base - more than 1.2 billion weekly users - with a capability it calls Intelligent UI (OpenAI).
Instead of fitting every answer into paragraphs, ChatGPT now composes the response as an interface:
- Visual answers. Ask for a plan and the timeline appears next to the steps. Ask for a comparison and it lays options side by side.
- Interactive explanations. Change an input and watch the output move. Work through a problem step by step.
- Mini-apps on request. Ask for a savings calculator, a bill splitter or a small game, and ChatGPT builds a working tool inside the conversation.
GPT-6 also starts answering while it is still thinking, so responses begin sooner - OpenAI says web-search answers start 44% faster on average than the previous generation. The rollout reached Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers on October 7, with Free and Go tiers following.

How to actually use it this week
The practical way to judge any launch: spend one hour with it on real work.
- Take a question you answer repeatedly. Pricing ranges, delivery-time estimates, headcount math. Ask ChatGPT to build it as an interactive tool and see where it gets the logic wrong.
- Test it as a thinking partner. Paste a real business scenario and ask for a visual breakdown - a flow, a comparison, a plan. The new format is genuinely better for seeing a problem whole.
- Prototype before you build. If you are considering a feature for your own product - a quote calculator, a tracking dashboard - ask ChatGPT to mock one up. It is a fast way to test whether the idea is even useful before an engineer touches it.
One caution: what it builds lives inside ChatGPT, in your account, on OpenAI's servers. It is a sketchpad, not infrastructure.
What this means if you run a business
Here is the honest line, because this launch will have every founder asking "do I still need my own app?"
What a chat tool can now do: one-off calculators, quick prototypes, internal scratch tools, visual explanations. The gap between "idea" and "something clickable" just dropped to minutes.
What it cannot do: own your customer relationship. A mini-app inside ChatGPT has no login of yours, no database of yours, no brand of yours, no payment flow of yours, and no guarantee it exists tomorrow. Nobody's customers will run their business inside your ChatGPT conversation.
Take a courier business as the example. ChatGPT can build you a rate-estimate widget in a minute. It cannot track thirty riders on a live map, assign the nearest one automatically, capture proof of delivery, handle cash reconciliation and send your customer a branded tracking link. That is a platform, and platforms are still built, not prompted.
The real effect of this launch is different: user expectations just moved again. A billion people are getting used to software that answers with working interfaces, not paragraphs. The products that win the next two years will feel that responsive - and that bar is set by whoever builds your app.

Should this change your plans?
If you were putting off a build because "AI will just do it" - this launch says the opposite. AI made prototypes free, which means execution and ownership are now the whole game. The winners will be businesses that use tools like this to move faster, then own the product their customers actually touch.
We build custom apps first. Source code and IP transfer to you once development is complete and fully paid.

Some ideas are a ChatGPT prompt. Some are a platform. Book a 30-minute discovery call and we will tell you honestly which one yours is - and if it is a platform, what it takes to build it.
