Build a Clone App Like Opal

A focus session concept where users pick apps to pause, schedule quiet periods and review their week. How much it can block is set by what each operating system allows.

Original UI concept, not a finished product or a reproduction of Opal.

What this concept is

This category depends on platform entitlements more than on interface. The concept starts with a feasibility check of the screen time and device management capabilities on each platform, then designs sessions, schedules and a weekly report within those limits. It does not promise universal blocking.

This page outlines a custom approach to screen time app development: a narrow first release you can put in front of real users, then extend once the core loop is proven.

Original narrow MVP flow

One path through the product, in order. Everything else waits until this works.

  1. User chooses apps and sites to include in a focus profile.
  2. User starts a session or sets a recurring schedule.
  3. The app applies restrictions allowed by the platform.
  4. A short summary appears when the session ends.
  5. A weekly report shows time in focus.

Original concept screens

What customers and operators need

Customers

  • Users need quick start and a clear sense of what is paused.
  • Users need an escape route that does not feel punishing.
  • Users need honest reports without shaming language.

Operators and your team

  • Platform entitlement and review management.
  • Configuration for profiles and default schedules.
  • Crash and permission analytics to see where setup breaks.

MVP first, roadmap later

In the first release

  • Feasibility check of platform screen time capabilities
  • Focus profiles and one-tap sessions
  • Recurring schedules
  • Weekly summary
  • Clear permission and recovery flows

Later, once the core works

  • Browser extension or desktop companion
  • Friends and accountability groups
  • Strict modes
  • Insights by app category

What drives the cost

A written quote starts with an agreed scope. These are the main decisions that shape the estimate for this kind of app.

Platform capability review

Entitlements and permitted behaviour differ by operating system and version, and must be checked first.

Native engineering

Deep OS integration usually needs native code for each platform.

Reliability testing

Sessions must survive restarts, updates and permission changes.

Reporting

Accurate time summaries depend on what the platform exposes.

Dependencies and risks

Things outside the interface that decide whether this kind of product works.

No universal blocking

Operating systems limit what an app can restrict. The concept does not promise unblockable control.

Entitlement approval

Some capabilities need approval from the platform owner, which is outside our control.

Users can circumvent

Determined users may find a way around any block, so design should rely on motivation and not on force.

Questions buyers ask

Can a screen time app block everything?

No. What it can restrict depends on each operating system's rules and entitlements. A feasibility review at the start defines what is possible.

Will it work on iPhone and Android?

Both are possible in principle, but the capabilities differ. The scope is set per platform.

Does the app track what I do inside other apps?

A build would use only the data the platform allows and disclose it clearly. No hidden monitoring is part of the concept.

What drives the cost?

Platform capability review, native engineering for each system, reliability testing and reporting. These are scoped on a discovery call.

Scope your own version

Bring your niche, your audience and your constraints. We will scope a narrow first release with its own design, brand and code, and tell you plainly what depends on partners, content or regulation.
